5 True and False : Universal Gravitation and Machines (Grade 7)

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-05-14] [Hit: ]
(2) is true because getting closer to the center of the Earth decreases the distance between you and the center, thus increasing the gravitational force.(3) is kind of ambiguous. The Moon is in orbit, so it is in kind of a free-fall, but it doesnt get closer to the Earth because the Moon is in orbit.......
1. As the distance increases gravitational force also increases
2. As you go deeper into the Earth the gravitational field increases
3. The moon is falling to the Earth
4. The force of attraction of earth on moon is bigger than the force of attraction of moon on the Earth
5. A machine is a device to multiply energy or work input

(1) is false because the force of gravity is inversely proportional to the distance between the two objects.

(2) is true because getting closer to the center of the Earth decreases the distance between you and the center, thus increasing the gravitational force.

(3) is kind of ambiguous. The Moon is in orbit, so it is in kind of a free-fall, but it doesn't get closer to the Earth because the Moon is in orbit. I'd say true, though.

(4) is false. Newton's Third Law says that the forces are the same.

(5) is true because machines are made to decrease the effort force.

I hope this helps!

I'm guessing Sam has long forgotten what it was to be in Grade 7.

1. False, the force of gravity lessens as we pull away from the center of the source of gravity (e.g., Earth).

2. False, as we drill deeper into Earth, more and more of its mass is "above" us and less "below" us. So by the time we reach the center of Earth, the mass surrounds us and the net gravity is zero.

3. False, the orbital distance to the Moon remains about the same. If it were falling, that distance would be getting smaller.

4. False, the Moon is much smaller than Earth. Therefore, it has less gravitational pull than the Earth.

5. False, it's a device to multiply the output, not the input, of energy/force.

Do you seriously not know these? Use common sense.

google should help :)
