We are a part of the Milky Way galaxy, the home to an estimated 200 billion stars.

Our galaxy is a part of the universe, the home to an estimated 500 billion galaxies.

That very same universe is estimated to be approximately 14 billion years old, and will live on indefinitely as far as humans can tell.

If one assumes that 1/10 of the stars of the universe are single star systems, and that 1/10 of those stars have at least one inhabitable planet, you are left with approximately a septillion possible host planets for life. Combine this with the near infinite amount of time that will pass, and you are left with quite a few opportunities for life.

I most definitely believe that an intelligent species has, does, or will exist in our universe.

Science has not even found one iota of life out there; not a bacterium, a virus, or anything. Least of all anything you could call a higher life form.
