I need to know because I have a test in 2 days and I have no idea how. Here are some examples.
|x+3|=5
|3x-2|=8
|1/2t-4|=1
|1-2/3x|=9

when you do absolute values, you have to copy down the original question, and then write another question with the negative answer:
1. x+3 = 5 ----> x=2
AND x+3 = -5 -----> x=-8
2. 3x-2 = 8 -----> 10/3
AND 3x-2 = -8 ------> x=-2
1/2t - 4 = 1 -----> 5=1/2t ------> 10=t
3. 1-2/3x=9 -----> 8= -2/3x ----> -24=2x ---> x= -12
1-2x = -9 ------> -10 = -2x ---> x= 5
