Photosynthesis is the explain through the unbalanced chemical equation C02 + H2O + sunlight yields C6H12O6 (aka glucose, a sugar that is used to give plants energy) + O2 (oxygen gas). When a person exhales or whenever there is a fire a gas know as Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is produced which is one of the reactants needed for the process of photosynthesis. Water (H20) is found from numerous different sources but the most natural way plants get water is either from the water cycle which is used throughout the world, or because of long tap roots that some plants (especially those in a desert biome) have. With those two, the only thing that is missing is sunlight which can be found during parts of the day time. The sun's light can be a limiting factor however, because it can stay out longer during certain seasons (most obvious is summer time) and can go away quicker during other seasons as well (winter time). It can also vary depending on the latitude you are at because during the summer time for the northern hemisphere, the sun can be out for over 20 hours at the north pole, but leave the south pole (which would be in winter time) with little to no sunlight during its day. Once all of these reactants combine through a plant, the byproducts are glucose(C6H12O6), which the plant uses for energy (plant food, this is because glucose is a simple sugar that the cellular structure that plants are made up of can easily absorb the nutrients from), and the other byproduct is oxygen gas (O2) which is released into our atmosphere and is vital for the survival of animals. Animals are so dependent on O2 because they need oxygen to breath, and they need an ozone (O3) layer in the stratosphere to protect them from harmful UV radiation. Stratospheric Ozone (O3) is produced by the balanced chemical reaction 3 O2 yields 2 O3 or in words 3 molecules of oxygen gas react together to produce 2 molecules of stratospheric ozone. Stratospheric ozone is not to be confused with ozone found in the troposphere which is produced because of photochemical smog and is harmful to animals. Also, by the plants being able to survive because of photosynthesis, they can become food for an omnivore or a herbivore and provide a home for an array of different animals whether it be an insect, mammal, reptile, or bird. Plants are a vital part of our life and they would not be able to help us if it was not for the sun, but the sun's energy is not only used for photosynthesis. It also used to heat the planet to the perfect temperature to sustain animal life, since our planet is not to close where all the water would evaporate almost immediately or too far where everything would be frozen solid. Plants make food from sunlight by a process known as photosynthesis. Plants absorb the sunlight and turn it into food. when a herbivorous (plant-eater) comes along and eats the plants then it receives the energy that the plant had made. Later, when that herbivore is eaten by a predator, the predator takes the nutrients from the herbivore that came from the plant. When that predator dies, its body is eaten by decomposers, who take the energy from the predator. If you were to follow the food chain from producers to decomposers, you would find that all life on earth is dependent on the sun.
